After being shown at Cardiff Independent Film Festival and Flatpack Film Festival I finally feel ready to release this to the wilds of the internet.
"Death in Space" is a collection of 2 second scenes depicting the many ways to meet an untimely death in outer space.
I originally started this project to refresh and expand my hand drawn animation skills and also to take a break from the more cutout Flash and CelAction animation I've been doing at my day job.
In my spare time, at lunch and after work, I had recently put out two 1 second animations inspired by Animade's "FullSecs" idea.
Both got a fairly good response and I realised I wanted to do more. I foolishly decided to DOUBLE my work load by doing not 1 second of animation but 2!
I liked the idea of cramming everything into such a short amount of time and found that I could really focus on the little details of the animation and take my time.
You won't find much in the way of "Making of" content here as I worked fairly straight ahead, with very little planning. I just drew until I had a single frame that I liked and built a scenario around that.
I didn't really keep track of time but all in all I think these fifteen, 2 second scenes took me just under a year to complete, working on it for a half hour here and there.
Now that it is all done and dusted I have been working on a follow up.
This time I'm aiming to have a bit more structure, maybe going so far as to STORYBOARD before just jumping in. Who knows?
